First time visiting Ikkai and wow I'll be back! Highly recommend the Sukiyaki set. The wagyu was so juicy and thick! So much flavour in the soup base. Friendly service and heaps of tables available inside.

Aust Bowy

The food is good but I did not try the sukiyaki which looked great from other people's tables. The staff were very friendly and helpful in discussing the menu and water. The decorations were nice and pleasing to the eyes. Do note that the place is a bit expensive but the quality is there.

Teresa Leung

Absolutely loved my visit here. The sukiyaki broth was very flavoursome, the Wagyu is of great quality (melt-in-the-mouth and so tender) and the veggies are fresh. Friendly and attentive service. Comfortable seating. Will definitely be back!

Two Hangry Foodies

Cherry T

Had the half half done (wagyu and karubi) and it was super yummy! The beef slices were melt-in-the-mouth, so tender and buttery. Staff were extremely friendly, ambience was lovely. I’ll definitely be back to try the sukiyaki

Decided to book this place for my boyfriends birthday and they definitely did not disappoint!!! Food and customer service was immaculate! The server who served me tonight was super sweet! She definitely made tonight very special for us. The food was phenomenal… all of the meats and sashimi would just melt into my mouth. Love it!

Felix Henryco

Had a birthday here w my partner. Amazing place, great experience. Head Chef Dani and Chef Kai served us and offered great hospitality! We had a wonderful time here and would love to return some day! Is it worth the money? Absolutely, the quality and menu was top notch. Definitely perfect for special occasions.

Bee Ng

This was one of my favorite meals here in Melbourne! The restaurant is spacious and decor is so aesthetically pleasing and simple. I had the two tier bento and chose the dry-aged striploin for the protein. The striploin was tender and had a beautiful char on it, the scallop was really fresh and juicy, and the wagyu tataki was wonderful! The service was really lovely and the cherry on top was the birthday dessert with candle for my friend. Highly recommend Komeyui, will be back again!

MV T

Delicious food and loved the mocktails! Will be back for sure on our next special occasion. Particularly enjoyed the steamed egg

Hooman

Fantastic experience, we felt like we're in Japan. Quality is the best here with great taste and varieties. Superb friendly chefs too we ended up having a long friendly chat with them. Staff are so professional as well. Overall easily 5/5 🌟

Our night was extremely delightful. They serve a set menu where you will try the best sushi in Melbourne. Food is very well presented and well balanced. It was my birthday and they included a special plate for me, very nice detail for my special day. I would only like to suggest including a written menu of the food as we did not receive any that day or it could be an email with the menu after party

Fi

A truly amazing omasake experience. Food was awesome, fresh ingredients, great flavour, everything just melts in your mouth. It's worth every dollar.

We will be back! Thank you!

Awesome find on our holiday. On a wet and rainy day, their delicious creamy and rich pork belly ramen hit the spot! Lady was extremely lovely and place was very aesthetic.

Adrian Dillon

The karaage burger was very tasty and very large, along with chips it was a big meal. If you're hungry this should do the job. Good selection of drinks on offer too. I will be back to try the onigiri and other sushi. The other hot dishes looked good too.

Pete K

Amazing! Hands down the absolute best katsu curry I've ever had, the huge burgers are mouth wateringly good and the pork belly ramen soup flavour was also an absolute winner although it could have had more pork in it.

Ricky Fung

The ramen was good though the gyoza were more like deep fried dim sum. Too crunchy outside and pork filling wasn't anything fancy.

Mathew Smith

The food is amazing. I've tried the Chicken Karaage Don and the Mixed Poke Rice Bowl (pictured) and they are both absolutely yummy. Good sized bowl for the price! Highly recommended.

The staff at Kura were incredibly accommodating of my wife and I taking our baby out for dinner in the pram. They gave us a secluded table for her to be undisturbed and we felt so well looked after for the whole evening. The food was delicious and a thanks to the cooking style, a different experience to a typical izakaya. All of the Sake we tried was great too, would absolutely recommend if you are looking for a higher end Japanese experience but not wanting something as expensive as some of Melbourne's fine dining Japanese establishments. Zero complaints, thank you for a great evening!

L H

Highly, highly recommend! Yes the food is delicious. But the service is out of this world! We were talked through and allowed to taste different variants of sake, and explained the process of how they were made. Plus a very special team drink at the end for my partners birthday. A must visit here for the best tuna sashimi in Melbourne.

Kimberly Doris Nguyen

Wonderful experience. Amazing woodfired skewers, fresh sashimi. Friendly owners have great passion about their extensive collection of sake.

Lina SUN

Recommended by friends. Amazing experience. Food is fabulous. Service is superior. Sylvia was taking care of our table, she is just great, great, great!

Alan Anderson

A hidden neighbourhood gem, with outstanding sushi (try the tuna belly) and a beef short rib to die for. The food and the service display the passion of a team enthused to make their restaurant loved. Make sure to take recommendations on the sake and learn something about it from the knowledgeable staff.

Lunch at @tengumelbourne from a few weeks ago: no frills place for nice poke bowls! I got the salmon poke bowl with soba noodles - good to have a refreshing poke bowl with soba noodles as the base! Good flavours 😊😊.

Oz Gent

Very delicious Japanese curry! I ordered the grilled chicken curry and the flavours of the curry veggies and chicken were all amazing. Great place for a tiny spot

Andrew Carew-Reid

Beautiful tiny Japanese cafe in Little Collins serving fresh and tasty fare that attracts plenty of customers. Delicious!

Mark Peterson

Came here for lunch to talk salacious work gossip with friends. Excellent quality food, I had the salmon poke bowl with soba noodles, one of the best I've had. There's extra dining spaces upstairs which is actually a nice cosy dining experience. Highly recommend 👍🏾

Adrienne Williams

Wonderful for coeliacs. Every care was taken to ensure my meal was safe. I had a poke bowl, and all the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I went with a work group and everyone enjoyed their meals. Upstairs room was also quiet. If I lived in Melbourne I would definitely be returning.

Fantastic experience and such great service. A first time visitor and I'm already looking forward to returning. From the initial seating to the food selection and warm friendly service, this place is excellent. The bill was very reasonable and we left full. Recommended! 🐟😎🍣🍤🫘

Chamika Ranasinghe

It is a great place for Japanese food. Staff are very friendly. You have to try the eel. Never thought I would try it, but it was delicious. We ordered a second serving. Parking can be a bit tough to fond in the immediate vicinity. There are two entrances, one for the restaurant and one for pick-ups.

Isabella Grigg-Eyley

We had such a lovely time here. The food is delicious and reasonably priced and the staff are so lovely and kind! Beautiful restaurant and ambience. Would definitely come here again, highly recommend!

What an experience! Nestled in between some shops on Collins Street. The entire evening was very plush. The food does not disappoint! Everything cooked to perfection and you won't have to eat for 3 days after! All the individual dishes were delicious.

Miroslaw Foksa

Very pleasantly surprised. The service was prompt, attentive, and friendly. The food and drinks came out remarkably quickly. There is a good selection of Japanese and Korean dishes. The portions were very generous. The food was delicious. Great value for money.

Marcus Dawe

A gem of an authentic Japanese restaurant. Great value. Quick eat of date night.. Either is good. Hope this review doesn't go too viral. I love being able to get in when I want... but nearly always full.

Ellie Huxham

The sashimi and nigiri boat was absolutely superb, the tempura prawn udon was amazing too, great atmosphere. The staff were so friendly!

Iman Hardi

nice and fresh ingredient, for the menu, it's more accurate to say that this is japanese and korean style food, have to wait a bit for the food to be prepared by the owner, but still worthed, the taste is good, service can be improved, thanks owner

What a great night! The intimate setting here is perfect for a special occasion or a fancy date night. Great food, immaculate presentation and attentive service. Will definitely return to try the tempura and sushi option.

Definitely the best Japanese restaurant for tempura. All the dishes were well picked, prepared and cooked by the chef himself. The 2 lovely ladies were super friendly and attentive. It has limited seatings for 12 people for only, which is perfect for a nice & quiet date. One of the best dining experiences that i’ve had here

It was our first time going so we were kinda lost but Jonathan explained everything so well and was super approachable which we really appreciate 🙂 Definitely made our night! can’t wait to go back!

Outstanding food and service at Niku Ou. Delicious wagyu with good proportions and the only otoro in Melbourne that actually tastes like the real deal in Japan. Will definitely come back for more.

Beef was very good quality, beef bone broth soup was very tasty and light. The chocolate mikan fondant was actually the best chocolate dessert I've ever had. Great service, everyone was very helpful and friendly.

Happened to be my vegetarian month of the year. There's very limited options from the menu, a bit disappointed when ordering, however, the two vegetarian dishes we ordered was very impressive. Seasoning was great, flavour was very well combined. The charcoal flavour brought the vegetable dishes to another level. Will come back to try the meat dishes.

Jenny and Jeremy

Alice

A restaurant with a good Japanese ambience. It serves a wide variety of Japanese meals, from sashimi to sushi to skewers and rice/ramen. Their skewers and the grilled goma tofu were a highlight for me. I like the chicken cartilage skewers and ox tongue.

Erick Zhou

Expensive for sure, but one of the best meals I've had in Melbourne. Super worth it, they didn't have one single bad meal
